Head Lice

Detection and Treatment

Head Lice are small blood-sucking, wingless insects found on the human scalp. They are six legged creatures with claws, which help them cling to and crawl through human hair. They live by feeding off a human host, piercing the scalp with their mouthpart to draw out the blood. Their survival needs necessitate spending their whole life cycle on a human host.

Head lice are most commonly found in school children, with the most vulnerable age being 4-11 years old. They do not discriminate between rich or poor neither do they have any preference towards dirty or clean hair. For more information on head lice click here.

A fully grown adult louse is only 3mm in size so they are very difficult to detect. Blitzlice advocate a simple and gentle method of lice detection which can be used at any time. A child can sometimes have lice for over 8 weeks before itching starts so you may want to use our detection method weekly. If you do find lice, you will be able to comb them out allowing you the time to purchase a treatment of your choice.

There are a variety of treatments available. We offer objective information about these treatments to help you decide on the best choice for you.
